In August, the Russian polymer market lay dormant, or even dead, as had been widely expected. Especially as converters faced liquidity problems, trading literally ground to a halt in the summer heat, reports Plastinfo (Moscow / Russia; www. plastinfo.ru). Against this backdrop LDPE, PS and PET prices in particular trended downward both in direct transactions and at distributors. By contrast, notations for HDPE and PP remained stable, a sure sign that the market has hit rock bottom. PVC was the one exception to the general lethargy, as the persistent bottlenecks led to price increases.
