Natural Rubber Sector In India

World NR production declined in 2009 by 3.8 per cent to 9.7 million tonne as per the latest statistics released by International Rubber Study Group (IRSG). The main reasons for the fall in NR production were extensive replanting in major producing countries, adverse weather conditions, over tapping until mid-2008, relatively low prices in early 2009 and tapper shortage. India continued to occupy the fourth position in natural rubber (NR) production in the world in 2009. India also continued to record the highest productivity though it declined to 1760 kg per ha in 2009 as compared to 1903 kg per ha last year.
