Setaqua 6250: a Novel Binder for Waterborne Trim Paints with Improved Application Properties

The limited open time of waterborne trim paints is still a critical issue and is not up to the performance of conventional solvent borne paints. As a consequence extensive R&D efforts have led to the development of a novel binder Se-taqua 6250 that can be used in very low VOC (30 g/l) waterborne trim paints with good application properties, especially improved open time. The influence of different paint ingredients on open time, gloss, hardness and durability are discussed. Semi gloss and matt formulations based of the Setaqua 6250 are also developed and results are discussed.
