One of Canada's most historically significant properties is launching a campaign to raise dollar 4.6 million for its restoration and conservation. The Parkwood Estate in downtown Oshawa, Ontario, was built in 1917 for Colonel R.S. "Sam" McLaughlin, founding president of General Motors of Canada. The 55-room mansion and its delightful gardens are a Canadian landmark. Designated a National Historic Site in 1989, and by the City. of Oshawa in 2000, Parkwood is considered one of the country's finest andmost rare historic sites, due to its completeness -- mansion, elaborate gardens, original furnishings and art -- plus its association with such an historically important figure.
