Kalwar is an organization that believes in publicizing success and its public relations department produces a prodigious amount of press releases. They provide the equipment editor with a great deal from which to choose and their announcements cover virtually every piece of port and cargo handling equipment manufactured. Since this is an article about the straddle carrier industry, the results of Kalmar's recent public relations efforts have been timely. They have consistently brought the message to us that their role in the world market as the leading straddle carrier manufacturer continues and is constantly evolving. There are a number of manufacturers now in the straddle carrier business, but there are two reasons that Kalmar is at the top. One, they tell the industry what they are doing and two, their continuing technological developments keep them firmly in the leadership position. This is not only true in the straddle carrier market, but also in a wide span of marine container terminal machinery. It is difficult to ignore both of these elements and it is often difficult to develop the balance we desire in developing an article, especially if equal levels of data are not available.
