Trenchless World names Project of the Year 2010

The rideau Canal, Ottawa, has been awarded the Project 2010 accolade by the TW editorial team. The horizontal directional drill below a significant canal has proven to be an accomplished project, carried out under extreme ground and climatic conditions. It is a prime example of the effectiveness of trenchless technology in renewing ageing infrastructure. The US$563,000 project involved replacing a 90-year-old, unlined, 120m-long, cast-iron water main with a 400mm-diame-ter HDPE pipe in difficult ground with cobbles and boulders.
