While Albania is small in size, it is rapidly becoming one of the largest leather 'workshops' serving the Italian footwear industry. This little known country contains over 50 shoe factories—several built within the last five years—producing finished shoes and uppers for export. With a relatively young and growing workforce, the lowest labour costs in Europe and proximity to both Italy and Greece allowing next day delivery, Albanian footwear production looks set to increase.
