German leather chemicals producer TFL was presented with the ICIS (formerly known as European Chemical News) Innovation Award for best product innovation for its Cool System in October. The patented solar reflective leather technology, comprising Sella Cool dyes to colour the leather and cool NIR (near infrared) transparent pigments (Roda Cool pigments), allows the leather's natural collagen fibre network to reflect NIR rays, thus keeping dark leathers considerably cooler when exposed to direct sunlight.
