Manufacturing PMI soars to 30-month high in December

The UK manufacturing sector ended 2016 on a positive note and is starting the new year on a "strong footing", according to the latest Markit/ CIPS Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI). The PMI rose to a 30-month high of 56.1 in December - up from 53.6 in November - remaining well above the long-run average of 51.5. A figure above 50 signifies growth within the sector.
