Malcolm Tennant,70,May 9,2008,Titirangi,New Zealand.Mr.Tennant,who died after an accident at his home west of Auckland,was a pioneer of fast raultihull sailboat designs.He owned his first catamaran in 1959,and by 1966 he had co-founded GTF International Catamarans,and later he became a licensed builder of Olympic Tornados.His Bamboo Bomber of 1972 was an early example of stressed plywood construction,and although most of his designs were intended for fiberglass construction-and were produced in the hundreds-he returned to the use of wood in 1983 for his lightweight,shoal-draft Wild Thing trimaran,using cedar-strip composite construction.
