A fine-looking new boatbuilding shed il now occupies a site in East Hampton, New York,for the purpose of boatbuilding classes and programs put on by the East End Classic Boat Society.The society's new 48' x 28',two-story building,whose construction benefited from a lot of volunteer labor,private contributions toward the $330,000 cost,and a 20-year lease at $1 a year from the East Hampton town government,is next door to the East Hampton Marine Museum on Bluff Road in Amagansett.The new building had a grand opening in September. The boat society formed in 1999 with a goal of 'preserving and promoting traditional marine craftsmanship and the enduring integrity of fine marine design,whether it is represented in recreation or working watercraft,' and adding to a 'deeper understanding and appreciation of our traditional maritime heritage.' It has about 200 members now.
