JEWEL OF MUSCAT

JEWEL OF MUSCAT is a replica of a ninth-century Arab trading vessel. It is based upon the BELITUNG wreck, which was excavated in 1998 in Indonesia. BELITUNG, the first and only Arab ship to be found in Asia, is evidence that Arabs traded with China during the first millennium. The new vessel was built in a purpose-made shipyard in Oman, drawing upon a range of historical sources including BELITUNG.
