Motorola has commenced the trials of LTE (Long Term Evolution) technology with several telecom service providers, which include Verizon Wireless, in order to facilitate the commercialization of LTE-based equipment next year. Ray Owen, general director of Motorola Vietnam and Motorola s head of technology, Asia, insists that LTE and WiMAX are competing with each other, adding that LTE s core technology is very similar to WiMAX and Wi-Fi. Motorola said that it has channeled around 75 percent of its efforts spent on WiMAX towards the development of LTE. Furthermore, the WiMAX equipment to be launched by the company in the Q3 of 2008 would share a hardware platform with Long Term Evolution products.
