Although Porsche designers drew their cues from the widely successful race car, the Porsche 550, the thinking behind the Porsche Boxster is an agile blend of old and new. Take a classic two-seat roadster, the kind seen tearing down the straights at Le Mans, where its left-hand ignition was pioneered, or while watching vintage racing on DVD. Drop in a compact water-cooled six-cylinder Boxer engine and position it mid-center. Give it prominent front air ducts which do triple duty-reducing drag, cooling discs for superior stopping ability, and providing a healthy dose of ocular candy.
