FORM CREATES FUNCTION

Creative director Brandon Kavulla, a self-described type junkie ("in particular BIG type"), wanted to use letterforms to influence the redesign of our pages. "Rather than simply changing the section logo or the bar at the top of a page," he says, "I wanted to force the whole page to change." It was only natural to use an S for the Start section, and a P for Play. By deconstructing those letters, Kavulla created fresh graphic elements that can be used to build pages: "This forces change and gets away from the structure I hate most—a square, boxy page."
