Maaaaaaybe some things are more important than my Tales of Suspense #39 being graded Fine instead of Very Fine. But you'd never know it from the average blockbuster movie. These budget annihilators have ruined the idea of making the world a better place! How much more simplistic can you get than Jack Ryan or The Hobbit: The Desolation ofSmaug? A terrorist plot/dragon threatens humanity/hobbitry, and if we just foil it/blow up his lair, we can chillax in a nice hotel/hole with an improbably named vixen/ale. In reality, the crises threatening us are things like famine and carbon emissions and Duke Nukem Forever, and dealing with them requires perseverence and coordination. But I have a solution: Watch TV instead of movies. Think about it-TV shows can't stampede to a climactic battle in two hours, so their characters grapple with a series of obstacles and actually solve problems.
