That plastic bottle you just tossed into the recycling bin could end up in your closet. Think of it as locavore recycling. Virginia-based apparel outfit Renew Merchandise contracts with recycling plants to process their big clients' bottles into flakes or pellets of plastic resin. The resin is assigned lot and batch numbers and then turned into yarn and spun into fabric to make clothing for those recycling clients. Because each shirt takes many bottles, the biggest obstacle is chug power-do the clients drink enough to make their own duds? If not, Renew diverts material from recycling plants to make up the difference.
