Seals of Approval, Luminaire Ratings, and other Bad Ideas

The confluence of attempts to influence public policy on the part of organizations with narrow, well-honed agendas, and the seemingly-reasonable desire on the part of many to "simplify lighting" for the consuming public, has produced yet another development with unintended consequences: luminaire ratings, seals of approval, and other stamps that signal a piece of equipment is ok to use.
