A national Innovation Strategy is needed if the water industry is to tackle the three layers of innovation - culture, process and technology. This is according to Colin Kelly, director of gas and water at Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions, who says: "The UK water industry already enjoys an enviable reputation for delivering and deploying innovation. A more collaborative approach could build on this." Speaking at Future Water 2011 last month, Kelly said: "My request to water companies, the supply chain and the regulator is to come together to create a National Innovation Strategy for the water industry. By working within a more formal framework for innovation, it would be possible to remove the wasted effort and duplicity which occurs from multiple organisations working in parallel on the same problems.
