Polypipe Civils recruits teenagers

Polypipe Civils, the sustainable drainage and water management specialist, has taken on two new apprentices following the launch of its Advanced Engineering Apprenticeship in Fabrication and Welding. Kieran Sayer and Cal-lum Collins, both 16, joined the Loughborough-based manufacturer after successfully passing an intensive two-stage interview process. The two successful candidates are working within Polypipe Civils' in-house fabrications department, where they are focusing on fittings. "When I finished school I didn't want just a job, I wanted a career," said Sayer. "The apprenticeship scheme at Polypipe Civils is brilliant, because not only am I being trained in fabrications and welding, but I'm also learning and improving on key skills such as communications, numeracy and literacy." The three-year programme is made up of on-the-job training and day release to college and includes fabrication and welding, manual welding, thermal cutting techniques and an understanding of computer aided drawing.
