A report by the National Audit Offices reveals that the apprenticeships programme continues to be highly valued by apprentices and businesses alike. Key findings in the report include: 1.Public spending on apprenticeships is offering a good return on investment 2.Apprenticeship starts have expanded amongst all age groups, despite a challenging economic climate 3.OFSTED inspectors and learners are positive about the quality of provision, with 91% of Apprentices satisfied with their training 4.The programme is well coordinated by its two sponsor departments, BIS and DfE, which oversee the National Apprenticeships Service and the Skills Funding Agency Juergen Maier, managing director of Siemens Industry Sector in the UK and Ireland, commenting on apprenticeship statistics said the report made for promising reading. He added: "At Siemens the number of apprentices we employ is growing, with an intake of around 100 new apprentices each year. "We currently support approximately 300 apprentices in a vast array of apprenticeships and as an engineering company strongly believe more needs to be done to encourage more people into the manufacturing sector through apprenticeships.
