Universal metering scheme under way

The energy Saving Trust (EST) is working with Southern Water on one of the UK's first universal water metering schemes. Around half a million new meters will be installed in Southern customers' homes over the next five years, with the aim of 92% having a meter by 2015. A recent survey of householders by EST found that a quarter of those who have meters say that they save 20% or more on their water bills, while 37% with meters say that they have become more water efficient, compared with 21% of those without.
