When I was a first semester graduate student, one of my professors insisted we read Thomas S, Kuhn's groundbreaking book The Structure of Scientific Revolutions. I was initially dismayed by this assignment. I thought I had enrolled in a research methods course as part of my master's degree in urban planning. What, I thought to myself, was this idiot thinking? I had never even heard the term "paradigm" until then, much less wanted to use it.
