摘要

The term "wireless" is generating quite a buzz these days, showing up in unexpected places. If you've found yourself asking what teeth have to do with cell phones or wondering if wi-fi is the next high-tech version of quadraphonic, you're not alone. Since the early works of inventors Tesla, Marconi and Stubblefield, "wireless" has been used to refer to the invisible transmission of airwaves from one place to another: 800-megahertz radio systems, garage door openers, cordless phones and baby monitors are just a few of the products that debuted wireless technology. When your chief information officer or information technology manager begins talking about "wireless," they are referring to relatively new ways of moving information from one computer system to another without using wires: wireless data transmission.
