The year 1816 went down in history as the "Year Without a Summer," also known as the "Poverty Year," and, more humorously, "Eighteen-Hundred-and-Froze-to-Death." There have been numerous articles written about that infamous summer, including in the pages of Weatherwise, but the upcoming 200th anniversary of the event merits a closer look at a meteorological phenomenon that may never be seen again.
