Technology Challenges Ahead For 100 Percent Air Cargo Scanning

Several technological challenges may stand in the way of implementing 100 percent physical screening of air cargo at airports as mandated last year by the 9/11 Act,Transportation Security Administration officials told Congress July 15 in advocating a modified approach that puts more burden on shippers further up the supply chain.Specifically,the technology to screen large pallets of cargo is currently unavailable,meaning shipments would have to be broken up,individually scanned and then reorganized back into pallets before being loaded on the plane.
