CYCLE TOWPATH BARRIER 'POINTLESS'

The Canal & River Trust has quietly decided that the many cycle barriers put up in recent years on urban towpaths are pointless. The barriers were originally installed to slow down speeding cyclists and prevent motorcycles from accessing the towpath. Meanwhile gates in the barriers, unlockable with 'Radar' keys, allowed wheelchairs and other disability vehicles to pass through.
