Smithwood Narrowboats is based at Ansty, near the Coventry Canal. For this, the company's first visit to the boat show, it brought its fifth boat, Lady Penelope, a 58ft semi-trad powered by a Canaline 42 with features usually only found on more expensive craft. The stern cabin entrance has a surprise twisty staircase - a little tricky at first but a lovely feature. The galley has a grey quartz worktop with inset sink to starboard, with an almost-island unit opposite that houses the three-burner hob. The walls and units are white with a veneered ceiling. Below the gunwale, however, oak wood block panelling gives a tactile feel to the interior, the thickness of each one being individually tailored. The height of the convertible dinette table is electrically controlled, as is the hidden television in the unit opposite the L-shaped sofa in the saloon. The windows are all portholes with three glazed side hatches - two opposite each other in the saloon and another on the port side across from the dinette, which will give extra light and air in good weather.
