For many years now, Braidbar Boats has exhibited an example of its bespoke craft at the Crick Boat Show, invariably in the company of members of its dedicated owners' club. At recent shows, it has been runner-up in the Favourite Boat in Show award (which, since 2017, has been divided into wide-beam and narrowboat categories) but not since 2007 has it walked away with the trophy and champagne. All that changed this year, however. When the visiting public's votes were counted ahead of the 3pm presentation ceremony on the bank holiday Monday, Braidbar Boats' 66ft narrowboat Elizabeth Anne was revealed to be the runaway winner - its clever blend of modernity and tradition, and innovation with simplicity, meaning no recount was required.
