FLOATING FICTION

My partner and I moved onto our boat last year, which is moored in Limehouse Basin Marina. We've always had an interest in the waterways and have been on boating holidays, so living afloat in London seemed like the ideal thing to do, especially as we wanted to be close to our children who both live in the city. Anna Cornelia is a 75ft-long barge that we bought off a Dutch couple who brought it over from Holland to sell. It's fully fitted with two bedrooms, a shower room and a well-equipped kitchen -like a really nice flat. It's quite a luxury conversion but apparently the Dutch prefer to buy the hulls and do them up themselves. They like to have a project. We looked at several boats, some moored on the tidal Thames. But really we liked Limehouse the best because it is a smaller, more intimate location as opposed to busier places like St Katherine's Dock. Although it's surrounded by flats and houses, it's really quiet, has a nice atmosphere and isn't as touristy as some other marinas.
