Plans to revive Griff Hollows Arm

Nuneaton & Bedworth Borough Council is meeting to decide the future of the infilled Griff Hollows Arm on the Coventry Canal. Opened in 1787, the arm once ran for 3/4 mile from a junction with the Coventry Canal south of Nuneaton, ending in a large basin that still exists and is now called Bermuda Lake. The arm continued to be navigable as late as the 1960s, and the route was only severed with the construction of the A444 dual carriageway in the 1980s. The line still exists, albeit infilled, and is owned by the council. It's an oasis of green in an area surrounded by modern housing, warehousing and commercial units, including restaurants and a multiplex cinema.
