Challenges in Adapting Australian Water Resources and Infrastructure to Climate Change

摘要

Many sectors and systems (e.g. water supply and sanitation, agriculture, energy, human health, settlements and infrastructure, industry, transportation, tourism, insurance and financial services) are dependent on secure water resources. Any adverse future changes tornhydrological regimes and water quality as a result of climate change will, therefore, have significant socioeconomic implications (Kundzewicz ef a/., 2008). More work is needed to enable us to better manage the risks and uncertainties relating to climate change impacts for water resources and water infrastructure and to further the development and implement of appropriate adaptation strategies. We believe that the concepts discussed here will provide a basis for the development of further ideas and activities in this critically important area.
