Two recently published Ofwat reports have relayed the message that water companies in England and Wales are set to meet their environmental and water quality obligations while still meeting Ofwat's efficiency targets and are giving customers better services than ever. The first report, 'Financial performance and expenditure of the water companies in England and Wales 2000-01', gives an indication of the companies' financial position for the first year of the price limits that came into effect in April 2000. It compares the actual financial performance and investment of the industry with the expectations made at the time price limits were set.
