Findings from datamonitor's latest report, 'Reshaping the UK Water Industry' reveal that nearly all UK water companies fear that their already slim profits will be further eroded by a host of new entrants from the non-water utilities and retailing markets if competition becomes a reality. According to Datamonitor, the average threat to the UK water market as a whole from new entrants has grown by 34% in the last two years. The domestic market shows the greatest increase in threat at 42% over the same time period. With this in mind, Datamonitor's report explores who the water companies are most afraid of and why, as well as offering strategies to survive in this increasingly volatile marketplace.
