Severn trent water supplies drinking-quality water to more than eight million people across the UK, as well as collecting and treating sewage and wastewater. The company operates over an area in excess of 21,000 square kilometres stretching from the Bristol Channel to the Humber Estuary, and from mid-Wales to the East Midlands. With over 1000 sewage works and a further 4000 sites that range from offices to reservoirs and pumping stations, Severn Trent Water estimates that it owns in the region of 60,000 electric motors. Many of these are used for pumping applications, but there am also motors employed in operating fans, valve actuators and various powered mechanisms.
