RESEARCH NEEDS FOR SUSTAINABLE WATER RESOURCES MANAGEMENT

Developing sustainable water resources requires understanding in many areas beginning first with the development of a conceptual model, followed by comprehensive definition of uses; availability and conditions; and then the development of indicators reflecting the model and conditions. Each of these topics is discussed in other articles in this issue. Although these topics work to better define the problem, they do not in themselves always offer solutions. Therefore, research is needed to help develop solutions. This article summarizes findings from a workshop focused on exploring research needs for developing water resources sustainability.
