APPLYING THE NATIONAL HYDROGRAPHY DATASET

The future of the NHD is to continuously advance the dataset in the direction the user community takes it. The NHD was initially designed by the customer, but as the customer continuously advances, the data they use must also advance. The USGS has now shifted gears from a data producer to a data maintainer as a champion of data stewardship. It will undergo a transformation in skills, tools, and methodology to partner with the community and give them the support they need to upgrade the data. By meeting the needs of the customer, the NHD will continuously serve as a primary tool in surface water science.
