DEMAND SIDE MANAGEMENT'S ROLE IN IWRM

Integrated water resource management is about looking at the need for water (demand) and the availability of water (supply) and figuring out what to do in the future. Finding alternative solutions to fill future supply deficits may include either increasing supply or reducing demand. Thus, demand-side management plays an important role in planning and managing our water resources for the future. Demand-side management, water conservation, and water use efficiency are interrelated terms. Water conservation has been defined as "the beneficial reduction of water use or water loss" and water use efficiency is defined as using the minimum amount of water to achieve a particular function, or "using water wisely."
