We are grateful for the comments of Dr M. Dinesh Kumar on our article on "Virtual Water Hegemony" and glad that the topic is arousing much-needed discussion. We agree that our analysis can be further developed. However, we would like to emphasize with this response that much of the disagreement between Dr. Kumar's and our views arises from our different starting assumptions and theoretical lenses.
