A NEW SIGNALING DEVICE: THE LED ELECTRONIC FLARE

When flying seaplanes, there's always the chance we'll find ourselves stranded someplace trying to call attention to our location. Flares and a signal mirror havc been part of survival kits since the early days of aviation. In the 1970s the ELT became standard equipment in airplanes. Now current technology brings us satellite-based signal devices that can transmit a call for help along with a position. We've come a long way, but even with these advances we shouldn't entirely abandon the basics. In my opinion, there's still a place in our survival kit for a simple visual-signal device, and I recently came across one that I like.
