Processing of copper converter slag for metal reclamation. Part I: extraction and recovery of copper and cobalt

The digestion of copper converter slag with concentrated sulphuric acid decomposed the fayalite and magnetite in the slag, thus releasing the cobalt and copper contents to be susceptible to dissolution. More than 90% of the cobalt and more than 80% of the copper in the slag can be extracted by water leaching.
