In this article we report on various types of support ships that are currently being planned, built and delivered to navies from around the globe. UK Fleet Solid Support Ships (FSS) In the UK the Royal Navy's fleet support ships are operated by the civilian manned Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA). Unlike warships, RFA's can be built overseas as they are not classed as naval combatants. However, in recent years this has brought about a great deal of controversy with regard to building new fleet support vessels for the RN.
