While America worked to recover from World War Two, many civic-minded people and organizations thought it best to recognize the service and sacrifices of the Army Air Force with a war memorial. In tribute to the men and women who served, the Reconstruction Finance Corporation, and later the War Assets Administration, made various weapons of war available for display with tanks, artillery, and aircraft being the most popular.
