Why Republicans need a tax cut

The polls suggest that most voters are not loudly demanding one. Passing one would make balancing the budget even harder. Just talking about one is dividing Senate and House Republicans and handing live ammunition to the Democrats, who are accusing Republican revolutionaries of preying upon the poor, the elderly and the infirm. Nevertheless, party politics is driving congressional Republicans toward something very much like the $245 billion tax cut they promised in their budget resolution.
