Flats, Higher Densities and City-centre Living in England: A Response to Evans and Unsworth

The drift in England towards high-density development in the period between about 2000 and 2008 has had a significant impact on the landscape of many towns and cities and, in addition, has changed the mix of the housing stock, with increased numbers of flats and fewer houses with gardens, as is widely recognised. The question is to identify the main causes. Evans and Unsworth implicate planning.
