Bouri drive lights up Libyan offshore

THE Mellitah Oil & Gas joint venture between Italy's Eni and Libya's National Oil Corporation (NOC) is set to receive bid documents within weeks from three contractors vying to land one of the most important offshore orders to be awarded in Libya for years. Very few significant contracts have been on offer in the North African nation in recent times due to civil war, with the industry downturn and Covid-19 pandemic further accentuating the country's decline as an energy powerhouse. However, Libya is slowly getting to its feet again on the back of the November 2020 peace deal, with state-owned NOC pulling out all the stops in an attempt to revive oil and gas production, both offshore and onshore. In the Mediterranean Sea, Mellitah is now forging ahead with its Bouri Gas Utilisation (BGU) development, a brownfield scheme for which an engineering, procurement, construction, installation and hook-up contract will be awarded.
