UK supermajor BP has decided to exit exploration activities in the Foz do Amazonas basin in Brazil's northern equatorial margin after failing to obtain the necessary permits to drill a well in the environmentally sensitive region. Brazilian oil giant Petrobras revealed this week that it has acquired BP's working interests at six blocks in Foz do Amazonas. These include 30% stakes in blocks FZA-M-57, FZA-M-86, FZA-M-88, FZA-M-125 and FZA-M-127, as well as a 70% interest in Block FZA-M-59. The deal takes place just months after French supermajor Total relinquished operatorship of five permits in the Foz do Amazonas basin and transferred the stakes to Petrobras.
