WITH forecasters seeing potential for another busy hurricane season, those responsible for evacuating US Gulf of Mexico oil and gas workers by air are ready for takeoff. Chevron operates its own helicopter fleet comprised of four Sikorsky S-92,10 AgustaWestland AVV139, and four Bell 407 helicopters, according to Rick Sloan, aircraft operations manager for the company. Sloan said last year's hurricane season reinforced Chevron's focus on preparation. "In April of 2020, our meteorologists predicted above-average tropical activity. We adjusted our schedule to ensure that all major aircraft maintenance was completed before June 1. This gave us full use of our entire fleet for evacuations and remobilisations when we shut in our Chevron-operated facilities for five different storms," he said. "Over the entire 2020 hurricane season, the operations and logistics teams safely evacuated and redeployed thousands of Chevron employees and contractors."
