Talos ready to roll at Zama

US independent Talos Energy has "effectively completed" front-end engineering and design work on the planned Zama development offshore Mexico, where it expects to wrap up a unitisation agreement with Pemex ahead of a 25 March deadline. Talos has touted its 2017 Zama discovery as a flagship future development but the reservoir extends into neighbouring acreage held by Mexico's state-run oil company Pemex, which has been moving more slowly with its own exploration programme, including stalled plans for the Asab wildcat well. In July last year, Mexico's Ministry of Energy (Sener) instructed Talos and Pemex to unitise the field and present a plan for development, but the timeline of 120 business days had to be extended. Talos has used all available time to pave the way for a planned fast-track development, backed by its partners on Block 7, Wintershall DEA and Premier Oil.
