US independent Hess announced late last week that it has sold about 78,700 net acres of its Bakken shale play in the state of North Dakota, acreage that the company has repeatedly called one of its key areas of operations, for $312 million. During a speech in March, chief executive John Hess referred to the company's position in the Bakken play as being a "competitively advantaged acreage and operating position". A total of 80% of Hess' 2021 operational budget will be directed to either the Bakken or the company's exploration and production activities offshore Guyana.
